04. HSG technical training
HSG technical training LAB 1. - basic hotspot gateway configuration
This lab covers technical/hands-on training on setting up a basic hotspot gateway using our award-wining mbox HotSpot Gateway (HSG). You may scroll down to bottom of the section to download LAB 1 configs and topology.
configure HSG network settings, eg. interface setting, firewall rules
configure HSG RADIUS & hotspot instances
configure & customize captive portals from hotspot portal templates
user and access profile management using HSG hotspot user module
testing and verification techniques
HSG technical training LAB 2 - Deploy MAP using HSG-MACC
In this technical session, we will get you familiarize mbox Access Point (MAP) and HSG built-in wireless controller (HSG-MACC):
Bootstrap MAP and provision MAP on MACC
Configure wireless settings using MACC template
Enable hotspot for each SSID/VLAN and apply captive portals
PS: during the training video, we encountered "problem" with the switch unable to trunk vlans across MAP and HSG. It was later found out that port 8 (where MAP was connected) was missed out with a command to enable trunking. It worked fine after adding in the command. So the switch is working fine as well.
HSG technical training LAB 3 - Controlling HotSpot User Access Rights Using HSG/RADIUS
This technical session will cover "Controlling HotSpot User Access Rights Using HSG/RADIUS":
user access rights overview
use HSG CLI to control user access rights
use RADIUS profile to control user access rights
configure access rights directly for each user
HSG technical training LAB 4 - Configure Advanced HotSpot Features (part 1)
In this technical session, we configure some commonly used advanced hotspot features on HSG:
advanced bypass/whitelist options
client sticky (mac cookie) for seamless re-login
HSG technical training LAB 5 - Configure Advanced HotSpot Features (part 2)
In this technical session, we configure advanced hotspot features on HSG:
adaptive user bandwidth control
dynamic bandwidth management
HSG technical training LAB 6 - Sign-in to Wi-Fi captive portal using Email options
In this demo, we focused on email registration feature of HSG CMS template, which consolidates all commonly used hotspot sign-in methods and allows customers to use their preferred login options through simple setting.
Specifically, we will demo user self-registration using email with either random-generated or user-defined OTP. You will experience our unique feature that allows users temporary Internet access to retrieve OTP upon signup, as an effective method to validate email accuracy, without costs of SMS as opposed to traditional SMS OTP.
HSG technical training LAB 7 - Configure CMS to enable user registration and login through SMS OTP
In this technical session, we will focus on SMS registration feature of HSG CMS template, which consolidates all commonly used hotspot sign-in methods and allows customers to use their preferred login options through simple setting. It's possible to configure either random-generated OTP or user-defined OTP for ease of remember.
HSG technical training LAB 8 - Cloud-based HotSpot Solutions Using MAP and HSG Hosted in the Cloud
This section demonstrate how to setup cloud-based hotspot solutions using our MAP (mbox access point) and HSG hosted in the cloud
explain cloud-based hotspot solution design
prepare cloud HSG configuration
bootstrap on-premise MAP
CMS config for cloud portal (using Wifidog for MAP)
HSG technical training LAB 9 - GMC (Guest Management Console) using mbox HSG
This section details setting up and operating GMC (Guest Management Console) from mbox HSG,
GMC workflow
GMC dashboard
GMC setup
Operator login
HSG technical training LAB 10 - HotSpot Troubleshooting Techniques
In this section, we go through some common hotspot troubleshooting techniques for mbox HSG/MAP,
1. Check mbox is properly connected to Internet, eg. WAN interface IP, default gateway
2. Check local DNS resolution is working, eg. name-server
3. Check local mbox local firewall rules (firewall-dnat and firewall-access rules)
4. Check upstream connectivity path is clear (in case there's firewall in front of mbox)
5. Check RADIUS working status
6. Check hotspot instance status
7. Check portal name and configured hotspot-portal URL
8. Debug/tcpdump client dhcp request and access requests
9. Show mysql running logs and URL access logs
HSG technical training LAB 11 - login to mbox captive portal by scanning QR code
In this section, we go through one very cool feature that we have recently added-in in our mbox HSG, to permit user access through scanning QR code. To login to the network, all users have to do is to scan a QR code, to get authenticate their connection, without having to login through captive portal.
preparing QR code
configure CMS template to enable URL Connection to permit access
HSG technical training LAB 12 - Configure transparent hotspot
This training will be on setting up transparent hotspot using mbox HSG.
Understand transparent hotspot deployment
Configure HSG in transparent hotspot
Live demo
HSG technical training LAB 13 - Configure scheduled reports
This training explains how to configure report to schedule reporting of RADIUS data & graphs.
Config SMTP setting for sending email reports (ADMIN - Settings - General)
Create scheduled reports (REPORT - Report Config)
• Customize report logo and description
• Set auto reporting email addresses
• Set report scheduler (daily, weekly, monthly...)
• Add report Items
